A Tense Quarterfinal Clash at Euro 2024

Heart-Stopping Finish in Budapest

In a thrilling quarterfinal match at Euro 2024, France narrowly defeated Portugal 5-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in regulation and extra time. The match was a tense affair with both teams creating chances but failing to find the back of the net. In the end, it was Theo Hernandez who stepped up to score the decisive penalty for France, after Portugal's Joao Felix had hit the post.

The match was played in front of a packed crowd at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, who witnessed a tight and competitive contest. Portugal had the better of the chances in the first half, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix both coming close to scoring. However, France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was in inspired form and made several important saves.

In the second half, France came out with more attacking intent and Kylian Mbappe began to cause problems for the Portuguese defense. However, Portugal's backline held firm and the match went to extra time. Both teams had chances to win the game in extra time, but neither side could find the breakthrough.

In the penalty shootout, France's experienced players held their nerve, with Aurelien Tchouameni, Kingsley Coman, and Antoine Griezmann all scoring from the spot. Portugal's Ruben Dias and Bruno Fernandes also scored, but Felix's effort hit the post and Hernandez stepped up to win it for France.

The victory sends France into the semifinals of Euro 2024, where they will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between England and Germany. Portugal's tournament ends in disappointment, but they can be proud of their performances throughout the competition.
